Sarah Hayward is the former leader of Camden Council in central London. Despite facing the largest budget cuts in UK local government history, Sarah and Camden are recognised worldwide as leading on a number of issues including housing and equalities, particularly gender equality.
Prior to becoming leader of Camden, Sarah worked as a political adviser and as a civil servant in central and local government. Sarah’s central government experience spans the Ministry of Defence, the Home Office and the Department for Communities and Local Government.
In addition to her leadership roles and work at the heart of government, Sarah has also led many successful campaigns to change government policy from the outside. Working with political and community groups, she has successfully campaigned on housing policy and mitigating the impact of major infrastructure projects.
Sarah is currently completing a Masters in Globalisation and Development at SOAS, with specialisms in security policy and forced migration issues.
