Roger was the Member of Parliament for Kingswood, Bristol between 1992 and 2010. During that time, he chaired the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Committee on Arms Export Controls. He served on the Trade and Industry and Deregulation select committees and as secretary and then co-chair of the All–Party Parliamentary Disability Group.
Prior to entering Parliament, Roger was a Lecturer in Economics at the Universities of Sussex, Papua New Guinea and Bristol. He was a member of Avon County Council from 1981 to 1993 and served as Deputy Leader of the Council.
Roger is currently the chair of the Bristol Law Centre, an executive committee member of the Law Centre’s Network. He is also a trustee of Disability Rights UK and has undertaken consultancy work for the IPU.
