Gustavo Bonifaz

Research & Analysis Manager

Gustavo is Research & Analysis Manager at GPG. He has over 15 years of experience in qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methodologies research and analysis. He applied these skills in academia and applied research focused on strengthening political parties´ representativeness, improving democratic governance through decentralisation and parliamentary innovation, as well as in the intersection between business and politics. In this capacity, he mapped the political economy and assessed political risk levels in several countries, with special attention to the Central Andean region for companies such as S & P HIS Markit, Edelman Intelligence, and The Economist Intelligence Unit.

Gustavo managed research projects focused on democracy promotion in lower-income countries and consolidating democracies for organisations such as the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), International IDEA, UNDP, Freedom House and the Bertelsmann Foundation. Gustavo has been the country contributor (Bolivia) for the Freedom in the World Report, for the last five years.

Gustavo holds a PhD in Political Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he also obtained his MSc in Comparative Politics as a Chevening Scholar. Gustavo obtained his undergraduate degrees in Law (public) and Political Science in his home country, Bolivia. He is fluent in Spanish, English, and speaks German at an intermediate level.
