John Tizard

Local Government Advisor

John Tizard is a strategic advisor and commentator on public policy, governance, leadership and public services. He regularly advises, writes, speaks and comments on these and related issues nationally and internationally. 

John advises and works with a variety of public organisations especially local government, business, charity, wider voluntary and community sector, and trade union sectors as well as think tanks and academic institutions. 

 

John was a senior executive at Capita and at Scope and has been a councillor and leader of a county council. He has also held non-executive appointments in the NHS, police, social housing, education and with central government. 

He now holds various non-executive and trustee appointments including at Tomorrow’s People, Entrepreneurs in Action, Villiers Park Education Trust and chairs Action Space and b-side He is honorary advisor to the navca board having previously been vice-chair. 

John is driven by his commitment to social justice and his belief that governance and behaviour are essential for any organisation to fulfil its mission and maximise its impact. 

John has been an evaluator for the European Public Service Awards in 2013, 2015 and 2017. He is a Fellow of the RSA and has been an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Birmingham and a Visiting Fellow at London South Bank University. John is an economic and mathematics graduate of the London School of Economics.
